The New Today Page

When art news happens around the world, deviant artists are among the first to respond in the most evocative ways possible. We're proud to unveil the Today page — the new human and dynamically powered newspaper for the community that reflects the stories inside of deviantART as they pertain to art, fandom, pop culture, and world culture.

Designed to showcase a variety of content — including editorial pieces, Journals, contests, and even deviants new to the site, the Today page will reflect the undercurrent of what's happening now — both online and off.

The Today page will improve the accessibility of various areas on deviantART, creating new and easier ways for both our logged-in and logged-out audiences to enter the deviantART experience.

Read more from techgnotic and our Content team: Welcome to The Today Page

We’d like your feedback: The purpose of the Today page is to inform you what’s happening, today, on deviantART! We’ll be updating its content daily, and want to know if it’s enhancing your deviantART experience. If so, how? Tell us what’s working! If not, what would you like to see on the Today page? How can we make it better?

If you encounter any bugs or other issues on the Today page, please file a ticket in the devBUG Issue Tracker under the Today Page project.

Watching Collections

You can also now watch Collections made by other deviants. When you watch someone, you’ll automatically be watching all of their Collections — but you can also choose to enable or disable watching Collections on a deviant-by-deviant basis. Collections are surfaced through the Activity Feed, creating a new way to discover and expose artwork on deviantART.

Art curators are among the unsung heroes of deviantART, and with these new changes, we’re now surfacing Collections on deviation pages, allowing you to discover curations of artwork that include a specific deviation.

If you encounter any bugs or other issues involving watching Collections or Collections on the deviation page, please file a ticket in the devBUG Issue Tracker under the Collections project.

Two new features have launched to Beta Testing! Check out the new Today Page, and watch Collections created by your favorite artists!

I watched a bunch of collections, but have no idea how to see a list of collections watched or their content.  How do I view\manage watched collections and how can I get watched collection content on my feed?  All I can see are deviants I've watched, but I watched a bunch of collections and not their deviants and cannot find them.

I like the New today page because 1. It shows you the popular art of the day and multiple interesting journals that are full of really good art. Same with the collections featured. 2. I love the area showing the newest Deviants because I enjoy welcoming as many as I can~

So,I don't know what's up with this watching feed thing or whatever the heck it is, but it needs to go away.
The new UI for DA is not cool at all.

We need the option to have this new crap OR stick to how things are before this nonsense. I hate not being able to view things altogether.
This thing has everything blown up in my face and I can only see one thing at a time. How it was categorized before is better. My journals are
in one area, the deviations in another. I can easily just scroll down just a little to see everything and get rid of things easily. This new beta thing
is terrible.

I want know why the site has been having so many problems lately?

if it is because of this update then that should not cause any problems, Facebook has updated allot and they don't encounter problems a fair amount of the time . I am getting tired of the site being slow, or there is to much traffic or being kicked out 4 times a few days ago.

DA please sort this out, it will only tick users of . many said before that you are fixing something that is not broken .

from what i have been told some areas where affected with the DA server not working properly. just stop this and fix the actual problems.
you are just going to bound drive users away from your site.

Hire more staff, look into the actual problems and listen to the feedback even if people don't like the update at least try and care. if this carries on i will not be afraid and i am sure others won't be in finding some other site.

: Art theft is getting stupid, our art can't even be protected any more with kids stealing it and posting it on some site we can't do anything about.
the da water mark is ugly, but even that will not protect art.

the server is horrible half the time, and what is the point in even reporting it to the bug problem? a new problem just appears a week later .

I am tired, tired of the fact i come onto  a site with screaming kids harassing me or lying about me . and yet you allow this to carry on and except us to report every signal problem.

sort your self out da, all you are doing is going down the same road as Google plus did and Facebook.

The ability to watch certain group folders would be much more useful than the ability to watch certain collections. I'm a member of several groups where I'm only interested in one or two of the folders, but right now, there's no way for me to filter out folders I don't care about.

I hope you'll consider adding the ability to selectively watch only certain folders in a group. It's really a long overdue feature.

You guys want to step up security a bit? You are allowing MALICIOUS ads to run javascript in iFrames without at least SANDBOXING them!!

Several times today, I have been NAVIGATED OUT OF MY GALLERY TO A BOGUS WEB BROWSER UPDATE PAGE BY YOUR ADVERTISERS. WTF!?

If you must use insane security holes like iFrame at least add the f***ing SANDBOX attribute to them. Though, if you want to be remotely safe about this you would NEVER ALLOW 3RD PARTY ADVERTISERS TO RUN ANY KIND OF SCRIPTS WHATS SO F***ING EVER.

Just my thoughts after your 'verts tried to hack me. :pissed:

Also, worth noting Opera ignores the damned windows HOSTS file -_-

Oh, that sucks! D: Like wreckling said, make sure to report this to the help desk. That's the most effective way of getting those ads taken down.

Also, I'm not sure what virus protection program you use, but I highly recommend getting AVG. It's free and very effective. You might also want to install a pop-up blocker. Browsers like Firefox have ad-ons for that. I can get you a safe download link for AVG if you want.

I really hope they do more about those ads. That's no good.

its not a popup, its a page-redirect coming from the iframe advert using javascript: window.top.location.href to take control of the tab I'm viewing my gallery in.

It takes you to a scareware page trying to trick you into installing software.

The biggest step you could do to prevent this is not allow them to run arbitrary code. Giving advertisers an iframe is giving them carte blanche access to your user experience and safety.

Second to that you could at least sandbox the iframe so that it CANNOT control anything outside itself. The SANDBOX attribute was added to the html5 spec for iframe elements more than five years ago, as of 2008 it was supported by Safari, Chrome, Firefox and Opera... IE is anyone's guess, maybe sometime in the year 3000 microsoft will catch up.

You are using iframes with: scrolling, frameborder, onload, data-adcatch-id, data-da-ad, style, and src attributes, but NO SANDBOX ATTRIBUTE. Sorry, but this falls on the devs more than the help desk.

The way its setup now these ads can hijack pages; run (CSRF) Cross Site Request Forgeries that could spam comments, delete deviations, or even hack user accounts; or inject their own scripts (XSS) into a Cross Site Scripting attack that could take control of your javascript. The latter two may be less likely because the advertisers using ad networks often have no idea what site and page they'll display on, but that doesn't mean that this vulnerability couldn't be exploited with a targeted attack to gain control of dA accounts.

If I knew which ad was responsible I would tell you, but as soon as it loads it does a page redirect using window.top.location.href - which could be reasonably prevented by simply sandboxing the iframe.

The ad redirects to: http:// promotionpush.net/redirect.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.newallsoft.com%2FdEJqsMxb%2Fdetection%2Fj%2F%3FPubID%3D5744_5794_4587%26ClickID%3D7484895609&k=5794-17703-21690-0-US

which in turn redirects to: http:// www.2m2xb6stxw.com/5828572265756B7C6C49412C58414A5D89DB118C4AB405071F2C55AE91A89DBD66F87B329DED3B975200C5CB269E47F2?PubID=5744_5794_4587&tgu_src_lp_domain=www.newallsoft.com&ClickID=7484895609

Here's a screenshot of the scareware landing page it drops you on:

2014-10-07 20 24 26-Please Update to the Latest Ve by ShadowRx

Again, this isn't just a malicious advertiser, its a security hole giving advertisers elevated permissions on trusted deviantart pages. There is no reason they should have run of the site.

Sorry for my harsh tone earlier, but it was pretty frustrating having my gallery page auto-nav to a bogus site while I was trying to upload deviations.

The reason I say to pass it to the Help Desk is because they communicate directly with our developer team when it comes to issues like this, so they're most able to help in this instance. The information you've provided in this comment is helpful as far as us removing the malicious ads goes, so please do include it in a ticket.

No need to apologize at all, I can understand how something like this would be an aggravating experience, and I'm sorry that it's happened to you. None of us want ad redirects like that to happen, of course.

You should at least give the option to add notes for each watched deviant. I find people I am watching and have no idea why - they've art I had liked, and changed username - I have no idea who they are and why I watched them. Name change history of deviants would be helpful too.  The current state of deviantWatch controls makes it most difficult to manage watches, but I think it's on your to-do list.

No, I don't want to use that more, I want to be able to use some user-friendly deviant-managing interface. The current one is so cumbersome and disorienting when you are watching more than 20 accounts, that I no longer even want to touch it.

I noticed that with the new site update, the "shop", "more", and "submit" buttons are in the wrong font. Their CSS for the font used in those areas only has "Verdana" defines, with no "sans-serif" afterwards as a fallback. I use Linux and don't have the Mircrosoft fonts installed, so it shows up as a default serif font for me, which looks bad. You should change the CSS for those elements to have sans-serif as a fallback, like is done in the elements on the right-hand side of the main bar.

I just need a direct access to MY gallery/faves/journals/daily deviations from anywhere on deviantART. It's just gone! They used to be under the "More" menu but not anymore. I really think it's a hassle that I can't access it straightaway but instead I have to go to my profile then again to my gallery/faves/journals.

I think the today page is a great idea, I am just not overly fond of the layout.  the page is so huge, rather long, and so much content, big content, it can be a bit undaunting or overwheleming.  What I dont like is that everything is the same color, every section, with the exception of the title header for each content box, all the boxes look the same. It's got alot of great content and its very informative, but I just think the overall design is kind of blah.  Question, will this be the page that will be the default DA page? If so, it should definitely be more appealing, even if not, it just seems too blocky, if that's a word.  Another question, I may have overlooked it, but how does certain information get to the today page?  I mean who has the ultimate control over what content gets on that page?  Was not sure how that whole process worked.

Still havent figured out how the collection thing works, but I will go look again.
