Commissions on deviantART

Thu Dec 27, 2012, 5:09 PM
The deviantART community is full of talented artists and art appreciators willing to pay for custom artwork. Today, we’re excited to announce that we’re launching Commissions on deviantART to all Beta Testers, a feature that connects artists with clients, creating custom artwork in exchange for real earnings.

Commissions is a Profile Page widget that allows artists to market their talents by advertising what they are available to create. Potential clients can easily send artists a Commission request, which an artist can either accept or reject.

Profits made through the Commissions widget can be withdrawn as real earnings -- through check, PayPal, or converted to deviantART Points.

Generate Real Earnings Through Custom Creations

1. List Commission availability on your profile
The Commissions Widget showcases your offerings, showing potential clients that you are accepting requests. These commission prices are based on
deviantART Points, are set in increments of 10, and can range from 10 to 4000 Points.

2. Clients request Commissions
Commission requests are sent to the artist’s Message Center, allowing them accept or reject the request.

3. You receive payment, you deliver artwork
Artists can track their Commission transactions and generate real profit through My Earnings, garnering 80% royalty on each transaction. Earnings can then be withdrawn as a check, PayPal, or converted to deviantART Points.

Try it out!

All Beta Testers can now install the Commissions widget on their page, so give it a try by heading to your Profile! Installed Commissions widgets are visible to everyone on deviantART, so you can offer your own commissions, and you can request commissions from your fellow artists as well!

Please note: Currently, the Commissions widget can only be installed by Beta Testers, but everyone has the ability to request a Commission from Beta Testers during this testing period.

If you encounter any bugs or issues, please file them in the #devBUG Issue Tracker under the Commissions project.

Beta Testers, we've just launched a new Commissions widget for Profile Pages that lets you offer commissions directly from your page!

Earnings show up on the Earnings page, which you can get to from the Shop menu at the top of the site. Once it's past the 14 day mark you can withdraw the earnings as points or money :)

You can set up the Commissions Widget without a Core Membership now. This is a pretty old journal, it's been available to everyone for a while. :)

Go to your profile, click "Edit Page" in the top right, then scroll down to the bottom where it says "Widgets You Can Add", click "Show All", and it should be in the last row of that list. Hope that helps :)

That's because you ARE the commissioner, so you can't buy from yourself. It's like that for everyone.

Hi there! The widget's changed some since this journal was posted, and I'm afraid I don't work here anymore! Try checking out the Help Desk to see if you can find the answer you're looking for, and if not, you can contact staff from that page as well. :)

I created a commission post yesterday on my page, and while searching around to make sure I didn't overprice it, I found this. I can't seem to find the limit option, which makes me sad because it'd be very helpful for my limited availability. Was this option removed, or am I missing something?

I probably sound rather stupid, but could you please walk me through the commissions widget set up? I have it up, I just don't know how to offer for separate commissions or anything.

Thanks, though I think I managed it. This was an incase if my friend didn't get back to me as she's been extremely busy lately. I've worked it out though, but thank you any way!

Where did the commissions browser/shop go? It seems to have been 'forbidden' for a long time now. When is it going to return?

Hi ikazon,
When creating a commission, regardless of how much points I enter, the money section of "Your earnings" always shows $ 0.00 :(

Hi there! If you've accepted a commission, then the payment from that commission should appear in the Pending Transactions section of the Earnings page. It takes 14 days for payments to clear before you can withdraw. :)

You can remove options by editing the widget and clicking the x on the particular listing you want to remove. Doing so will also remove any pending commission requests for that particular type of commission, as a heads up. :)

Once you click "Edit this Widget", you should see a red x off to the right side, like in this screenshot (which is too wide for thumbnails, so you'll have to click through to see it :P):

nope! the points stayed in their account the first time they paid and it didn't work, so they didn't lose any points
nothing was transferred to my account automatically either when the problem was fixed so they only paid what they were supposed to

How can I delete previously-listed commissions? I need to edit prices and examples and such, and it would be such an ugly, massive mess if I simply added them; however, the widget has no editing options?

Hi there! If you edit the widget on your profile, you should see pencil buttons on each individual listing, and you can edit them from there. I hope that helps! :)
