In our continuous effort to improve the deviantART experience, we're publishing weekly Site Updates to keep members informed and to gather feedback. Below is a list of recent changes to the site, bug fixes, and feedback that was brought up by members in the last Site Update.

What's New

Update to deviantART Mobile

In October, we launched the new mobile site to everyone, and while we stand by its design and functionality, we received valid statements regarding older devices not being compatible with the new layout. With this in mind, we've brought back the old mobile site for older devices, with the option to switch to one or the other depending on your preference.

For said devices, a banner will appear on the main deviantART page that says, "Touch here to switch to deviantART's legacy mobile site," which will reload the page with the old mobile layout if tapped. If you would like to return to the new mobile layout, you can do so by tapping the Menu button and selecting "Switch to New Mobile Layout" from there.

Please note: while we are bringing the old mobile site back for these devices, it is a legacy version of the mobile site, meaning that we will not provide updates to this layout, and technical support will be limited.

Proposed Changes to the Anthro Gallery

KovoWolf is heading up potential changes to the category structure of the Anthro gallery, and your feedback would help shape changes made in the future.

Change Log

  • More Like This was briefly unavailable. Fixed by chris

  • Pressing escape would exit both the deviation and the stack, for fast browsers. Fixed by kouiskas
  • The description box wouldn't expand when content was pasted in. Fixed by samshull
  • When submitting a deviation to both Scraps and Groups, the deviation would go to the Groups but not to Scraps. Fixed by kouiskas
  • Deviants were unable to set preview images for ZIP files. Fixed by adahacker
  • When submitting text, the page would always trigger a "Mature Content not selected" error, even if it was selected. Fixed by adahacker

Sta.sh Writer

  • Some Literature categories were displaying entries as Journals. Fixed by kemayo
  • The Google Webfonts list was out of date. Fixed by kemayo

Your Feedback

Thanks for the feedback left on last week's update! Here's some of what you had to say.
  • Deviants were pleased with the new tool to improve More Like This results. Nippey suggested that it would be helpful for the original deviation to scroll, so that members can have an easier time comparing the results to the starting deviation.
  • SougonNaTakumi mentioned that it would also be useful to mark particular deviations as good or bad matches for the source deviation.
  • Some deviants would like to be able to go directly to their Profile from Sta.sh. Suggested by Xeir-Zith
  • Deviants would like the option for endless scrolling on deviations in their Message Centers. Suggested by Yamitora1
  • Members would like to be able to change permissions for a Group Gallery Folder from that folder's page, rather than having to go to the Manage Members section of that Group's admin area. Suggested by IceWolf762
  • Some deviants would like to be notified if they are logged in for two or more sessions at once. Suggested by Bemari

deviantART muro for Critique
Some deviants have suggested using deviantART muro as a tool for critique. When giving critique, do you find it helpful to be able to leave a visual representation of what you mean, such as by redlining the work? (Redlining is when an artist draws a sketch over another artist's work to help find flaws in the original art.) As an artist, would you find it helpful if other artists could leave redlines as part of a critique on your art by using deviantART muro?

Hi, when I use the DeviantArt app or the website on my mobile, ads will pop up across
deviations and literally stop me from using it at all, is there a fix for this?
