In our continuous effort to improve the DeviantArt experience, we're publishing weekly Site Updates to keep members informed and to gather feedback. Below is a list of recent changes to the site, bug fixes, and feedback that was brought up by members in the last Site Update.

What's New

Valentine's Day Art Exchange 2015

Break out the candy hearts and crafting paper, because the Valentine's Day Art Exchange is back! With Valentine's Day just around the corner, now's the time to create valentines for your fellow deviants to share with their special someones. Start now by creating a digital valentine to be submitted to the Valentine Exchange category. Then, from February 11th to 16th, deviations in the Valentine Exchange category can be sent as valentines to your friends and loved ones!

Change Log

  • In response to community feedback, deviations that appear as part of a Collection on the Watch Feed can now be visited directly from the Watch Feed, rather than requiring deviants to view the Collection first.
  • For a short period, Profile Pages would not display for logged-out users. Fixed by kemayo
  • When sending a Note, the page would redirect to the Sent Notes folder after sending, rather than returning to the Inbox. Fixed by trezoid
  • Clicking on a specific Forum area would sometimes incorrectly try to redirect to a nonexistent Browse page, leading instead to an error page. Fixed by elhsmart
  • Under certain circumstances, the "Complete your Profile" banner on the Profile Page would continue to display, even after all portions of the DeviantID widget were properly completed. Fixed by szlosek
  • In the Watch Feed, using the Collections dropdown menu to add a deviation to one's Favourites wouldn't work properly if the menu displayed on top of a Journal. Fixed by inazar

Your Feedback

Thank you for the feedback on last week's Site Update
  • The majority of deviants who responded to the Discuss topic said that they tend to create spontaneously, rather than on a strict schedule.
  • A common theme deviants mentioned was that they didn't create on a strict schedule, but that they create on a schedule that allowed for spontaneous works. For example, Estherella said that she creates once a week at least, but won't necessarily set a specific day or time to do so.
  • For deviants who said they create on a schedule, they noted that their schedule was either built on how much they completed per day/week, or how much time they spent each day/week on creating.
  • Nintala said that she uses the time it takes for her to create her personal works as a way to measure a time frame she should give to clients when doing freelance work.

Sending Notes

When you send Notes to other deviants, what are your primary reasons for doing so? Do you use it as a casual way to converse, share art, communicate about commissions, roleplay, or other things? What would you say are your top 3 uses for Notes?

I feel like a good thing to add would be a 'like' system. The ability to like a comment or a note message. Lot of artists read through every single comment but don't have the time to write a reply - if they could just 'like' a comment it would show their watchers that they really are reading the comments and that they really do care. :)
