For Firefox and Internet Explorer users, the browser's back button did not always work properly, when viewing a deviation by using the "Next" and "Previous buttons.

I'm still having this issue and its becoming quite bothersome when trying to browse my own and others' galleries. I'm a Firefox user.

I also have an issue with my back button when using dA. Each time I hit the back button, it goes to the page I was at previously for just a moment, then quickly jumps to the one I was moving back from.

There's also one more thing I've noticed, when I have a tab or window with dA open in it and I lets say I open another tab to another site that has videos such as Youtube, the video plays for a second or two then the audio cuts out. After a few more seconds, the video crashes. Once I close the tab with dA in it and refresh the Youtube page, the video works again. This is getting pretty frustrating.

For What's Hot, I think it would be beneficial to prevent deviations from showing up on it that are already in the " Popular " Sections ( All time periods / From Popular All Time - 8 Hours )

:giggle: I'm a little late to this party I think with the new site update due out any time now, but could you offer a feature that allows you to select journals to delete all in one go please? Having to delete them one by one is really annoying when you have slow internet mixed with 50 odd journals that need deleting :giggle:

Maybe include them in the "Manage Deviations" area, but have an option to mass delete rather than just put in storage?
livholland Featured By Owner Apr 5, 2013  Student Digital Artist
The 'What's Hot' feature is a nice addition to gallery filtering options. Unfortunately the results it gives out are too similar to 24 h Popular filter to really be valuable on their own. Maybe changing the positioning formula would diversify it a bit. For example the initial position based on popularity alone could be lowered based on the popularity of the deviaion in the last 24 hours. For example x 0.1 multiplier to the most popular, x 0.2 to those little less popular and so on to give a priority to the older deviations/ones that are not already featured on top of Popular 24.

Regarding "More Like This", is there a chance that maybe it can be changed to where we have more control over what the results are? I don't like having what I consider unsavory thumbnails for some of my pieces. One of them has erotic artwork as the results despite the piece itself not being adult in any way! I feel that sends the wrong message about that piece, and having a little more control over what "More Like This" displays could really help one out in a situation like this, where the results are not only quite inaccurate, but unwanted as well.
Pastel-Hime Featured By Owner Mar 30, 2013
I hate 'more like this'. It features old art that I'm ashamed of, other people's art on my page, and it's an eyesore!
Can't you let the artist choose whether or not it appears, or at least what appears inside? Couldn't we make a way to tag art so it isn't included in 'more like this's line up?
Hi-biki Featured By Owner Mar 28, 2013  Hobbyist Digital Artist
I don't even know why I bother anymore, but let's try this again:

Is it so hard to change MLT into a collapsible widget?
If for some reason that is difficult, just swap the positions "More From _____" and MLT. Honestly, that shouldn't be hard at all.
The artist should take priority in their gallery. It is THEIR gallery, not someone's free advertising page.
If I wanted to advertise someone's work, I would simply do a feature.

Both of those options are very simple features that would probably make a LOT of users happy (or those who are wanting a smaller MLT, less intrusive version.
The MLT feature had good intentions, hell, I even liked in in the beginning, but now it's like a parasite.
Something needs to be done. People have been voicing their negative opinions about it, and people are leaving because they feel like they are being ignored.

As for the journal thing. I use the "Write A New Journal Entry" page. I will NEVER use I personally think is useless, but I know other people that really like it, so that's fine. So how about instead of "improving" things that clearly already work well, why don't you guys fix the issues that are already there?

Finish what's on your plate first before getting seconds, you know?

it's nice, I like the DA changes, but, please, turn back MORE LIKE THIS into a button!! I'm not paying DA to show others artists art in MY OWN PAGE!

Half the time the "More Like This" has nothing to do with the art of the page and, worse, is sometimes what appears to be fettish porn. Thanks, DA, that's really what I want as "More Like This" on drawings that are not remotely fettish porn.

Okay I got a complaint but rarely do you care>_>. Unless its a glitch. WHY did you ruin my devwatch list? you've basically forced me to have it alphabetical, granted when I go to the page and pick it as catergories. It does work. But its not permnant. Couldn't you had made it an option? I hate scrolling down alphabetically to find my friends. When I preferred the watch list set on catergories.

The more like this box is stealing my audience and clients.
I ask that the more like this widget is less prominent.
ItsNotFilia Featured By Owner Mar 27, 2013  Hobbyist General Artist
I'd prefer the gallery and MLT being equally prominent, if that's what you were thinking of.
Patt-Ytto Featured By Owner Mar 27, 2013
You want it to be even bigger? :S
ItsNotFilia Featured By Owner Mar 27, 2013  Hobbyist General Artist
MLT is significantly larger as a whole, compared to the gallery sample widget on deviation pages. I prefer them equal both in aspect/dimensions, but also in accessibility.

Ok, I've got an issue regarding images that violate dA rules. Myself being an artist that does mostly nude art, there is much on this site that is just straight offensive and breaks the rules. I belong to several groups that feature nude work and despite their saying they follow the dA terms of submission they clearly do not and I find myself reporting at least 2 images almost, a day. Why doesn't dA seem to take this very seriously? It's very heartbreaking to see this site going down hill when it comes to terms of offensive imagery (no to mention the open verbal vulgarity in the comments) and making people who take their nude work seriously look bad.

It would be nice to have more moderators screening images that violate dA submission rules, I'm quite sure there are MANY who would do it on a volunteer bases - I know I would!
Ayumu-Haruto Featured By Owner Apr 2, 2013  Student General Artist
I don't do nude art but I agree totally with your statement. It annoyed me to no end that people can't distinguish the difference between nude art and just straight up porn. And I would totally volunteer for screening as well
BohemianHarlot Featured By Owner Apr 2, 2013  Professional General Artist
Sadly, I don't think it will ever change, it's an issue that they don't seem to take very seriously - dA seems more focused on the overall appearance of the site and adding widgets / gizmos rather than protecting the decency / credibility of artists. It seems like a lost cause especially since dA just introduced their dating service. I have no idea what dating and art have to do with one another but, the addition of the dating site with the porn running out of control just encourages the addition of porn content. It really breaks my heart....
Ayumu-Haruto Featured By Owner Apr 2, 2013  Student General Artist
Yeah I don't get what's with the dating site either. But I think they should fix some of the more basic problems before changing the way it looks. It already looks awesome and very professional

I love the What's Hot feature, but would really like to be able to search it.

I also am still really miffed by the "More Like This Box" placement and content. I think deviants should have veto power of what shows up in the box since it is their deviation page and they don't necessarily want crap or pornographic images on their page. Also you NEED to put it BELOW the "More from this artist" widget and only have a few thumbnails at a time, not a whole freaking box of them. I get so tired of having to hunt for the "more from this artist" and a link to their gallery.

I also agree with people about the prevalence of porn. I'm sick to death of seeing close up genitalia and wide open legs at camera shots. At the very least give it it's own category and allow people to filter that category from their feeds, while keeping Artistic Nudes (and seriously monitor this category... a poorly lit macro shot of a vagina is not an Artistic Nude). Your policy about porn in your TOU makes me laugh because really, from what I see around the site... what is it that you don't allow?
novectors Featured By Owner Mar 27, 2013  Professional General Artist
actually, a clear definition of "artistic nude" might well be in order...
somehow i don't believe that a male butt displaying lipstick-scrawled pseudo-political (or just random) messages can in any way be construed as "art"...

and while I understand that there may be more confusion in trying to "clean up" shots of the female form, how hard is it to figure out that close-up penis shots really aren't "art" at all?

jus' sayin'...
JuliaGraceArts Featured By Owner Mar 27, 2013  Professional General Artist
I agree! They could at the very least create a filterable sub-category entitled "Close Up Genitalia" or some such thing. That's pretty darn clear. They could even create an "explicitly sexual" or some such thing category vs. a category for nudes more along the classical.
sechzehnhundert Featured By Owner Mar 25, 2013  Student General Artist
We've waited quite long and I think I'm right when I say, this feature as well as the "More Like This" has been missing too long - as long as it does not replace previous functions. I always liked the fact that deviantart is a place where you can still discover something new, not just because it is trending or similiar to things you've already shown interest in. Google i.g. customizes search results, that can be great if you are looking for something specific that otherwise would require some hard work to find but it can also keep you from an objective viewing angle and reduces the possibilty of finding something you haven't seen yet.
CSuk-1T Featured By Owner Mar 25, 2013   Digital Artist
I have done a great deal of work with nude photography as an artistic form and as such, it saddens me to see so much unartistic, smutty, gutter level pornographic material on DA these last few months. There are plenty of magazines and photography web sites specifically for that kind of hardcore work so why is such work being allowed so frequently on DA?. I don't see why i should have to turn mature content off/on (potentially missing some fine art nudes; from other DA members) in order to avoid seeing images of mostly unattractive women (most of the time in my opinion) with a gaping hole wide open legs shot.

There is currently a professional porn/glamour model/lady uploading nude etc. photos of herself (that she has not even taken) and just using DA as a self promoting business outlet to sell her wares! Where is the artistry of an artist in that kind of deviance?.

I'm also sick to death of people trying to get me to visit their Facebook pages and that other utterly idiotic and moronic daily drivel diary known as Twitter. Put these people into a seperate business persons section of DA as they are only on it to sell and could'nt care less about the real DA art community.

Other than that i love DA and have just one favour to ask. PLEASE put a 'BACK TO TOP' button at the bottom of pages. Some peoples pages are so long etc. and its a pain in the neck having to scroll all the way back up again.

Thankyou for taking the time to read...if you have done :lmao:

This item piqued my interest :
Some raw camera filetypes (.3FR, .ARW, .CR2, .CRW, .DCR, .DNG, .ERF, .KDC, .MRW, .NEF, .ORF, .PEF, .RAF, .SR2, .X3F) are now supported for submission. Whenever possible, a PNG preview will be automatically generated when uploaded, the same way that previews are generated for .TIFF and .PSD files that have maximized compatibility turned on.

I'm not entirely sure why people would want to upload raw photos direct to dA - I would have thought the majority would do at least some editing beforehand and export the final image from whatever editing software they use. :hmm: Also, those files are going to be big! Hope you guys have enough server and storage capacity on tap to deal with that.

Related to this, you're proposing to display EXIF data from raw photos or from other filetypes where EXIF data is preserves. Correct me if I'm wrong, but is dA still displaying advertising on Deviation pages related to camera make and model information from EXIF data? I recall that a lot of photographers went through and scrubbed all EXIF data from their submitted photos when this was first announced. :hmm:

You guys need to seriously fix the way you guys handle explicit pornography reports and disable the mechanism that locks the report tabs out when a case is closed.

Seriously, I just found a picture of bestiality that some idiot admin screwed up explicit pornography report up on. You should fire the idiot who handled the report. How the hell did they miss the fact it was a cropped image of a dog's head, and that two links to the explicit pornographic image was in the description.

Where is the common sense?

My common sense tells me that when a image is titled Good Boy, appears to be cropped, and has two links that say "Full image" It is likely bestiality porn.

Luckily I was able to report it through the sexualized minor tab since it involved the underage female naruto character Hinata.

But seriously, you guys are dropping the ball. You need to re-instruct the admins on the rules. I am always finding deviations that are censored/cropped version of pornographic images. The rules clearly state censoring and cropping still do not make a image ok to upload, and are suppose to be treated like a normal image that was not censored or cropped when they violate the rules.

Why are you admins letting people get away with breaking the rules?

I know you guys are busy, but stop being so damn lazy. Do a little leg work research, read the descriptions and titles. I've found images that literally tell you click for porn that were not removed because of some dumbass admin reviewing a report and marking it as invalid without investigating why it was reported.

If you guys want to improve the site, then do the following

1: Disable the mechanism that locks tabs out in the report window.

Just because a report is filed and closed doesn't mean the deviation should be immune to further reports. What happens if the artist edits the deviation that breaks the rules? I've come across many deviations with links to porn in the description that have a lock on the explicit pornography report tab.

Also, I've found that 70% of the time the reports are marked invalid due to the reporter not providing enough info. Just because a person doesn't write a 50 page report, should mean that the deviation doesn't violate the rules and should continue violating whatever rule(s) it was originally reported for.

2: add the following options/tic boxes to the Explicit Pornography tab.

Improper/Attempted Censoring and/or Cropping
Oral Sex: Fellation Cunnilingus and/or Anilingus
Underage/Sexualized Minor
Other Adult or Illegal Content Linked from Description

As outlined in FAQ #305: Is posting 'Adult' oriented artwork alright if I censor it first?

Attempts to submit "Adult", obscene, or pornographic works which have been slightly edited though blurring, cropping or the addition of any form of censoring block will be treated in the same manner as the submission of an uncensored work if the voluntary censoring is deemed insufficient or lacking by the reviewing staff member.

I've observed that the admins seem to be clueless to this rule, and often let deviations slip by just because they have some form of censoring on them. I've seen pictures with erect penises allowed just because of a erect penis shaped censor bar. What kind of nonsense is that? You need to seriously re-educate the staff on faq305

At the moment, there is no real way to report oral sex or any kind. And the Explicit Sexual Intercourse tic box does not indicate if or if not it should be check in these events.

If an image contains a underage or sexualized minor, real or fictional, than a second separate Sexualized Minor Report should not have to be filed, especially if that minor is engaged in explicit sexual behavior(s)

I also find many deviaitons link to the uncensored version of the image, but it does not necessarily count as pornographic per-say.

3: Add the following Options/Tic Boxes to the Sexualized Minor report Tab

Explicit Nudity
Sexually Provocative Scene/Pose
Sexually Provocative Manner of Dress
Exaggerated Breast, Buttocks and/or Genitals

The first couple are no brainers, however I often come across deviations that have underage characters in all sorts of sexual depraved fetishism and undertones. Much of which involved the character having parts of their body sexualized by being the focus of the image or their anatomy enlarged to fulfill Macrophiliac urges of the artist/viewer.

4: Make fetishism involving minor characters against the rules.

As mentioned above, I come across many images where a minor character has a part of their body oggled or sexualized by being made the focus of in the art, or enlarged.

Foot fetishism is one of the many things I come across that underage characters are exploited for, but drawn in a way where they technically do not break the rules.

It should be made where a underage character shouldn't be allowed to be used for foot fetish art.

Also, I've noticed that there are many pictures of underage characters with their stomachs enlarged for inflation fetishism

Same for Pregnancy fetishism. I Think The DA staff needs to put a end to this.
MrOshawott Featured By Owner Mar 25, 2013
Agreed with all of the above. Enlarged stomachs of underage characters is a problem that I keep running into despite having the Mature Content Filter on. :|

Ben 10 and Naruto are especially victimized with such images.

Da should hold a contest for people to write a set of rules and vote on which set is best.

I would love to write a set of rules to combat all these perversions that people are drawing minor characters in.

There's a group that is founded on the incestuous relationship between Naruto and his Mother. If I wrote the rules, I can guarantee that sort of thing would not be allowed.

Personally, I like the More Like This section because sometimes I do use it to browse multiple galleries for similar categories.

The only thing is, usually, I can hover over a thumbnail to see a popup box with some basic info: title, artist, date of submission, even category!
This function is missing from MLT, which pretty much means I have to go to an artpage to find out anything about it. Plus, there's no titles. I hope the feature will be added sometime, since it's a wonderful feature. Very browser friendly. :)

I would like to suggest a choice to set the HTML tag "wmode" to "direct" when posting Flash deviations with Adobe Flash Player 11 features. Without that, any Flash deviation that make use of these features will load but not play. My suggestion is to offer a choice to choose the HTML "wmode" to allow those Flash contents to work properly.
