Things they don’t tell you about losing your grandfather on a Tuesday night:

When you wake the next morning, you still
need to get out of bed in time for work, you still
have to shower, dress yourself, eat breakfast, brush
your teeth and hair;
                              and when your mother calls
to check in, you have to comfort her because she lost
her dad last night;
                            and when you call your grandmother
your voice cannot waver lest you upset her, because
she lost a man she's known for seventy years and even
though she would never hold it against you, you still
feel obligated not to cry;
                                    and when you sit down
to do your job, you will have to do it with all your heart
because if you cannot do it with all your heart you
won't be able to do it at all;
                                         and when the sun
bears down on you as a testament to Wednesday
you have to accept that the sun will continue to be there
even after everything you love, even after you yourself
are gone;
Even when you know it's coming, even when you think you're as ready as you can get for it, nothing prepares you for the part where you have to keep on living.

It seems selfish to write about this in the wake of so many tragedies, but I guess that's neither here nor there.

I recently lost my grandmother.

The emotions are very real in this, and you captured them beautifully.

I can very well relate to this and i have to say that even if you need to be strong for the others, find a little alone time in which you can mourn them, otherwise it'll eat you on the inside :hug:

I agree very well with the job part too.. The Sun and the millions of years that have passed before us and will continue to after us ..a striking reminder to make us humble and sometimes relieved :)

This is such a beautiful and moving piece. My grandad is losing his battle to cancer, and this really touched me and hit many nerves. I'm so sorry you had to go through this and felt the pain you did and most probably still sometimes do. I hope you are well. :hug: :heart:

I am not sure why but the thought that came to mind when I was reading this was "The lose of self" Now that is selfish of me, but I couldn't help it & I cryed.

I noticed myself whimpering "oh my god" while my eyes started watering as I read this. I lost my grandfather years ago to esophagus cancer. My dad died suddenly when I was ten, we still don't know why twenty two years later. Losing a family member is probably the worst pain I can think of. I'm sorry. :(

I am, thankfully. It's been a few months now, and now we're more or less back in the swing of reality as we know it. Although, now we're dealing with the fallout from separating possessions as per the will and all that, heh, but I'm not directly involved in any of that. Thank you very much though, I appreciate it a lot :hug:

" and when the sun

this makes me cry. I lost my best friend to suicide on a monday night, and when tuesday came, i was so angry that the world was still moving on like it had been unaffected. People drove their cars- walked their dogs- I was so angry that my world had seemingly stopped- but for the majority of everyone else- their day went on like nothing had happened at all. The world kept spinning and there wasn't anything I could do about it.

This is a greatly written piece. Thank you for sharing it

I'm so sorry to hear that. I hope you're hanging in there. :hug: But yeah, that is perhaps the most difficult thing about it, is knowing that the world goes on moving, and that you have to keep on moving too, no matter how prepared or unprepared you are to do something the next day.

 I applaued you for this; I just recently went through not one but two deaths in my family in the span of two months. Truly it's a raw thing and it's very true; I do't work yet as I am still in classes but, the point still stands; you try to be strong even though you feel like a part of you is completely...torn away without a second though; but the only thing thats kept me going is remembering they are still here, in the sense..In your thoughts and heart; It's never an easy road to take ad you never fully get over it but..You learn to let go of the pain enough to keep going and remember they wouldn't have wanted you to ponder, regret and waste your own life wondering what you could have done to change it; what could have happend; what you should have done. They would have wanted you to keep going.

Definitely something that makes you think. I'll share with you a quote from one of my most favorite books. I know the pain of your loss. He will be loved, forever.

“That the sun still rose the next morning was incredibly unjust. Someone good had died. People still woke up, had breakfast, went to work, and it was wrong. Flower petals still opened in the sun’s early light, and animals still grazed the day away, their minds untroubled. Someone good had died and the world had the audacity to move on.”

Oh man...
This is a really sad poem. And you did a really good job at it.
My brother a few days ago lost his ten year old son. It was painful for him and me.
I would always go over and he would greet me and we had this loving connection.
But my brother is crushed so I try to go over there house everyday and he also had 7 sons and 2 daughters and they were all older than "Sonny" (Nickname.) He was the youngest, so going over there is not fun anymore. Ive severed ties with most of my family because we get in arguments a lot, but me and my brother are really close. This poem really speaks to me.
I like it.

What a beautiful yet sad poem. I mean, I may not truly understand how it really and genuinely feels to lose someone close to you.. although I'm sorry for your loss on the accounts of your family AuroraLaLune.. and I'm also sorry for your loss too Ikazon.

AuroraLaLune, I honestly almost cried at your story, because it is true. This world is crueler than we may believe it to be, and some people out there have no hearts and are willing to hurt others without even giving a second thought about the wrong things they did. Thank you both for reminding us all that life isn't always full of flowers and rainbows and that the reality is, is that one day. We'll all have our time's end.. as sad as it is. This is the truth.

I respect you both and I will also try to reflect on this.
