Here comes another late night call...
Hi all. It's been a hell of a year so far, hasn't it? I've been trying to make a point of changing my habits this year, particularly in the past few weeks. I'm making it a point to get up and exercise more, the eating habits are next on the list, and most importantly I'm trying to write again. Not just telling myself I want to do it, but actually making myself use free time to do it. So...it's something.

I feel like I've kind of been letting time go by without working toward anything other than surviving in the past few years, and I don't like that much. So, that's something I want to work on as this year goes on. For now, though, I'm trying to make small changes that are easier to commit to, in the hope that the big picture gets better in the process.

In lighter news, I've been playing D&D with a few friends, so that's been a fun and consistent social event that's getting me out of hermit state. It's also been good fodder for writing, as coincidence would have it. I think in the process of working on these various things, I've cut back on my time playing Overwatch, but I don't feel bad about that in the grand scheme of things, so maybe it's just for the best in general. I think that for all the fun I've had playing the game, it's also been a contributing factor to me not focusing on actual life goals and the like.

Anyway, it's pushing on 3 am and I'm rambling, what's new  How are we all doing?

Music corner:

I'm kinda sick of my job; been at it for 20 years. Noah's about to head off to college now (!), so I'm not about to quit the paycheck.  I've been running a D&D game for him and his friends off and on for a few months, and that's been fun.

Good to hear from you.

I haven't been at my job for 20 years, but I am also kinda sick of my job  But it pays the bills, so here we are. That's exciting for Noah, but also I still haven't wrapped my head around the fact that enough time has passed that he's going to college. Wild. D&D is good fun though! I forgot how much fun it was to just have a routine hangout schedule with friends, and it's really lightened up my Mondays. Speaking of that, we're starting in 10 minutes, so. There's that.

Good to hear from you as well, and hopefully I can keep hanging around enough that you'll hear from me more :ahoy:

I am working towards selling things I make, but it's slow progress. I really wish it was faster, but some days I am just too tired, or it's too hard to focus. So I sit and play Guild Wars 2 for hours on end. But my partner does remind me that it's ok to relax when you need to. Just makes me feel like I'm being lazy and unproductive.

Yeah, it's definitely good to take rest time in the midst of doing things, I just reached a point where I actively wasn't being productive :T So, I'm working on that part. To be honest, I actually feel like I've been enjoying the relaxation stuff more because of it, too.

It feels good to have what we consider well-deserved rest. We know we have worked hard, and we reward ourselves with some relaxation. I just need to work a bit more on the productivity. Starting a bit at a time, get the ball rolling and all.

I hear you on the working towards surviving...I actually rather like my job, but I'm not doing anything bigger now. Guilt guilt guilt.

I mean, it's good you like your job though! If it's a place you're happy at, then it's not complacency, I don't think. What I've been doing (or not doing, I suppose) has been complacent. I need to push myself more.

Haha, I don't think I can say I'm totally complacent, but I'm basically doing a Masters because in 10 years that's gonna be entry level for this field u:

What worries me more is I come home and spend my time consuming media others have created instead of making anything new. Guiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiilt.

I mean, at least you're not trying to play catch up after the fact?

Same. Working on it, but same. :P I think I also have fallen back into the pit of telling myself I shouldn't write self-indulgent things when it's like...why not, really?

Heh, when I told my mom she was so happy that I was finally doing something with my life. I was like, MOM I HAVE A CONDO AND A CAREER WTF

Right?! Although have to admit I'm only inclined to polish things I'm trying to make money off. That ridiculously expensive but gorgeous puzzle isn't going to pay for itself.

 My parents are like "you make as much as we do, you're doing great!" and I'm just like "mom, you and I both know that what you make is just enough to get by"

Yeah, I mean, revision is different, the stuff I'm writing now probably won't ever get edited. But it's still better to do this than not write

Boyyyyyyyy your sleeping habits are almost as bad as mine and that's saying something. :')

What are you doing exercise wise? I want to get into a better life pattern as well.

They've had several years to deteriorate, for better or worse...

Mostly just going for a walk each night. I've been walking about a mile and a half to get myself used to moving again, and then eventually I want to pick running back up, but we'll see how that goes.

Lol I feel like the same could be said of mine though. I messed my sleep up when I was fourteen and it went downhill from there.

I feel like I should be able to start running because I already walk well beyond that (a normal walk for me is about five miles) but... my body doesn't seem to have read this memo.

I was pretty okay about sleeping at 14. I definitely screwed it up from 18 onward, though...

Running's more high-impact, so it's a different sort of exercise, to be fair...

That's a solid decade of poor sleep. No wonder we are Team Tired.

Yeah, no kidding. Even when I could walk for 16 hours non-stop, I couldn't run for 2 minutes.

At least we're consistent, I guess?

My housemate is the same. He's flat-footed, though, so it stems from that, haha.

I'm flat-footed too (or at least, I have "flexible" flat feet in that they're not completely flat all the time) - this is the science behind how my feet "shrank" from a UK size 7 to size 5 - but when I am running it is very much the rest of my body that is the problem. :')

For you, of course. You'll need backup though, she doesn't know how to cook for anything other than a whole family (+extra in case there are visitors).
