In our continuous effort to improve the deviantART experience, we're publishing weekly Site Updates to keep members informed and to gather feedback. Below is a list of recent changes to the site, bug fixes, and feedback that was brought up by members in the last Site Update.

What's New

Sales Statistics on the Earnings Page (Beta Testers)

As part of an initiative to consolidate features and make deviantART more user-friendly, the statistics system for Prints has been ported into the My Earnings page!

Stats for Prints have been ported into the Earnings page to make them more readily accessible. In addition, stats for Premium Content and Commissions have been incorporated as well, so you can easily track sales for your Prints and downloads all from one page. You can sort statistics by date or by sale to find what information you're looking for.

Change Log

  • 403 and 404 Error pages now include deviantART's header and footer, for easier navigation. Added by helloandre
  • When in Firefox, resizing the browser window while viewing a Journal containing custom widgets could sometimes lead to layout issues. Fixed by $muteor
  • The "Next" button for comments on one's Profile Page briefly did not work. Fixed by $shadowhand
  • Some links to the Prints Shop did not direct properly. Fixed by $helloandre
  • There was a layout issue with the "update your email" notification. Fixed by $muteor
  • Users banned from purchasing could still request a commission. Fixed by $yury-n
  • Some Permissions Exceptions for groups didn't work properly. Fixed by $DEVlANT
  • Various updates were made to the Sta.sh API. Some API documentation was updated as well. Fixed by $muteor and $adahacker
  • On some pages, usernames were not capitalized properly. Fixed by $shadowhand
  • Images in one's Portfolio had unnecessary drop shadows. Fixed by $fartprincess
  • The "Sign Up" modal had some text alignment and layout issues. Fixed by $iconocrash

Sta.sh / Submit

  • Selecting multiple Sta.sh files using shift and the arrow keys was not working properly. Fixed by drommk
  • The "broken image" icon would appear in some browsers when an image was simply not ready for display yet. Fixed by $kouiskas
  • The selection rectangle would get darker every time one would navigate inside and outside of a stack. Fixed by $kouiskas
  • Using command+click (ctrl+click for Windows) to select an item would not visually recognize an item was selected until moving the mouse away from it. Fixed by $kouiskas

Sta.sh Writer

  • The Add Media tools will no longer attempt to load for incompatible browsers. Fixed by $kemayo
  • For a short period, it was possible to embed YouTube videos in comments. Fixed by $kemayo

  • The Add Media tool did not work properly in the Admin Area of Groups. Fixed by $kemayo
  • Emoticons in the Sta.sh Writer sidebar were not respecting Mature Content settings. Fixed by $inazar

Your Feedback

Thank you for the feedback on last week's Site Update! Here's some of the feedback you left for us.
  • Feedback regarding the new method of commenting was mixed. Some deviants were happy with the ability to include images in comments, while others voiced concerns regarding spam.
  • In response to the Discuss topic, deviants mentioned that they liked being able to access more emoticons. Some deviants suggested that they would like an easier method of looking up user icons, in order to use icons not submitted as emoticons.
  • Deviants also suggested a way to mark some emoticons as favorites in Sta.sh Writer's sidebar, so that regularly used emoticons can be found easily.
  • Some deviants would like a way to move deviations to or from Sta.sh. Suggested by WinxFandom

Folders in Notes
In order to help organize your Notes, deviantART offers the ability to sort your Notes into folders. You can create folders and subfolders, then drag and drop Notes into these folders. We've found, however, that folders in Notes are particularly underused. Do you find yourself using folders frequently? If so, what do you use them for? Do you find them useful? Is there any method of sorting Notes you would find more useful?

Actually, and I know this is a tad late, but regarding note organisation, it might be nice if we could more easily find out which notes we hadn't replied to yet. Or a sort by sender.

I'm probably in the minority here, but I actually use the folders and subfolders in my Notes very heavily. They've especially been useful for the groups I'm in, since I get notes from both mods and group members frequently. I would hate to have a mess of Notes to search through as I'm trying to find where I last left off in a RP, rather than just click on a folder and boom, got it. Making the folder feature a little more user-friendly would be okay, though.

I'm also one that says 'No' to having a submit button in my gallery. Afterall, it's in the drop-down menu at all times, so why bother being redundant?

And, I'm not sure if this is the correct spot to bring this up, but... has the literature submissions feature been changed recently? It will not allow me to insert thumbnail icons unless it's in journal mode. I can't have these sorts of RP Log submissions as journal entries because, I'm unable to submit them to my RPing group. In this group, showing icons makes it easier for everyone to know who's-who. Also, I don't really want this showing up as a journal entry anyway, since I tend to put RP Logs in my scraps after my group has viewed them. So, yeah... this has become a bit of a headache for me and a few friends of mine. (And I can't paste it as text, since it messes up all the coding. Believe me, I've tried.)

Please upgrade your browser to access deviantART?

What is this? I'm an Opera user and Opera never gave me any problem with dA. I cannot see how many messages have, cannot see my notes, cannot do anything unless I enter my message center or a deviation.

Don't you have enough filling this site with unnecessary add ons but also have to render it inaccessible for some users?

Deviantart doesn't love their users at all

Why the hell is the upgrade browser bar covering up the top bar?

I get it, my browser isn't supported. I'm using the browser I use no matter what, and I WILL NOT BE UPGRADING until Opera 15 has all the same features.

But now that bar is covering a bunch of things that make the site usable, including:

*The home button

*The search field

*My username, with the dropdown that includes settings and logging out

*The messages button

*The submit button

*The shop button, including dA's precious revenue sources!
*The Friends button
*The faves button

Now if I feel like mousing around forever I can still get most of these dropdowns and click on most things, but this is really annoying, really frustrating and not doing the site any favors.

I will always choose opera 12 over dA. If I can't use the browser that has all the features I've come to expect, I just won't use the site. And I will be sure to log in with Opera 15 long enough to spend all my points before I go, preventing dA from just absorbing the money used to purchase them as profit.

I would NOT have a problem with the message if it bumped the menu down, or could be closed. It's interfering with my actual use of the site.

I use folders frequently. I sort by sender, and by level of importance (although stars are more used for that). As a method of sorting notes, I wish there was an easier way to sort by sender. I would ask for a search bar as well, but I hear that searching notes/faves would require a revamp of the search system? Also, a "trash" area which removes deleted notes permanently after a set amount of time from deletion (if possible, maybe a user chosen date).

And and and, a search notes feature - even if it was client side, though it'd be incredibly slow with my amount of notes - would be amazing, and would eliminate much of the need for folders. ^^

Yes, I use the folders in my notes to keep them organized between different conversations, but it's more that I don't get or send notes that often.
A feature that I use extensively though, it the folder option in your normal message center!

You people really need to make this kind of shit optional. When you add more craptacular shit, put in the option for us to turn it off or hide it. Like more like this on MY fucking pages. I don't want other peoples art taking up half my pages. I pay to remove adverts, I don't want to advertise for other artists.

We should have the right to turn OFF more like this on our pages
We should be able to DENY people using art in comments on our pages
We should be able to use the old simple submit page rather then this stash mess you turned it into.
We should be able to make journals without being FORCED to use stash writer.

Of course I am as ALWAYS talking to a brick wall.

Maybe, a lot of the updates tend to derp on slower connections. ^^;

If it's about the sales stats though, the function's only for Beta testers. :aww: You can become one with a premium membership only, which involves paying the membership fee. Beta testers have an equals (=) sign in front of their name.

Hope that helps!

Not that it really concerns me at this point, since I'm quite new to Deviantart, but a folder system for your notes sounds really good. It's always nice to organize things, especially if you get a lot of notes. Just like the usual email folder system; instead of just scrolling through all the thousands of mails you got, you can put them in different folders, and thus get easier access to them. So, in short, I would probably use this system in case I'd need it.

I love the folders in notes. I can keep commission and art trade discussions and details separate so they're easier to find. However it would be super special awesome to get a search function in there.

On another note, I often want to check my messages on my phone, but the android app doesn't support that, and the mobile site is quite buggy and clumsy for me x___x I find myself switching to the desktop website on my phone a lot. I'd love to see more work done in the mobile area, especially on a messages app.

I use the folders in notes to sort by username and so when I want to lower the amount in my inbox I can put individual conversations in their own folder.

TBH, I don't use the folders but it may be actually caused by the lack of time. I wouldn't remove it I guess.

And also, please bring the [link] back. I loved that system to the point that I was making text [link]s on other sites. It's so clean and clear. And now many of my descriptions just look broken.

I don't know about others, but I find folders for notes very useful. This way I can easily track a series of thoughts from my better correspondents, and can refer back to ideas when I need them. A good idea, and well implemented. It's too bad that more people don't use it.

As to 'More like This'. It's a mess. All too often, what's in it has almost nothing to do with the original post. I suspect that the basic problem is simple: Too many postings monitored by way too few auditors. It would be better to eliminate it if it can't be done right, and I DO realize that doing it right is a monumental job. If there were an easy way to limit it to truly relevant postings, I think it would have been found and implemented already. But finding that well over half of the contents are worthless destroys the value of the idea. I use it very seldom for just that reason. Save the efforts of the people administering it for better purposes.

I use folders a lot in the message center(messages aren't marked as read so I sort them in folders), but I don't receive many notes :iconforeveraloneplz: so I don't use folders in notes. Folders are a great way to classify notes, if I start using notes more I'll definitely use the folders. A search system wouldn't hurt though.
